Very few people are born with perfect teeth. Odds are, you’ll need braces or Invisalign® at some point, not to mention cavity fillings. If you don’t take good care of your teeth, you might also need root canals, dental crowns, and other restorative dental treatments down the road. Not only do these things affect the health of your teeth, but they also impact their appearance. Luckily, our dentists offer a customized solution to address all your dental needs: smile makeovers. Here are a few ways our smile makeovers can provide a much-needed boost to your confidence and self-esteem:
Improved Aesthetics
Our smile makeovers address multiple aspects of your smile, including the color, shape, and alignment of your teeth. If you are self-conscious about the way your teeth look, our dentists can combine a range of cosmetic dental treatments to create the perfect smile. Not happy with your tooth stains from drinking lots of coffee, wine, or tea? We’ll provide a professional teeth whitening treatment. Hate the space in your teeth? Our dentists can fill in the gaps with teeth bonding, inlays and onlays, or porcelain veneers. If you wish you had straighter teeth, we can also talk about including Invisalign (also known as “clear braces” or “invisible braces”) in your smile makeover. Just let us know what you’d like to change about your smile, and we’ll put our skills, experience, and resources to work for you. The end result is a beautiful smile you’ll be proud to show off!
Healthier Teeth & Gums
Healthy teeth are beautiful teeth. If you are looking to improve the appearance of your smile but also need to address cavities, gingivitis, tooth infections, or even tooth decay, we can offer solutions to improve your oral health and your self-esteem. Our dentists can offer white tooth fillings that blend in seamlessly with the surrounding teeth, as well as inlays, onlays, and ceramic dental crowns to protect your damaged teeth and make them look brand new. If you have missing teeth, we can also discuss dental implants and dental bridges, which are permanent, aesthetically pleasing tooth replacement options.
Smile Freely
When your teeth look good and are healthy, your self-esteem skyrockets. Many people are self-conscious about their teeth, which makes them hesitant to smile, laugh, or even speak in social situations. However, if you collaborate with your cosmetic dentist to create a beautiful smile that you are proud of, you’ll be able to smile freely and pose for photos without feeling down about the appearance of your teeth. This translates into a happier, healthier you, and you can’t put a price tag on that!

If you’re considering Invisalign as a more attractive alternative to braces, odds are you have some questions about the treatment. Invisalign is still a fairly new dental technology, but it has quickly become a popular choice among dental patients who want straighter teeth. To learn whether Invisalign is right for you, contact our dentists at Constitution Dental in Downtown Ottawa, or continue reading for some answers to frequently asked questions about Invisalign.
Who Can Get Invisalign?
The beauty of Invisalign is that it addresses many different dental problems with regard to misaligned teeth, such as overlapping teeth, tooth gaps, overbites, underbites, and crossbites. There are very few cases in which Invisalign isn’t an option, so most people make good candidates for this “clear braces” alternative. To be sure that Invisalign is the right orthodontic choice for you, we recommend scheduling a brief consultation with our dentists so we can take a look at your mouth and answer any questions you have about the duration or cost of Invisalign treatment.
How Does It Work?
Invisalign doesn’t work like traditional braces do — it’s a much simpler process that relies on a “map” that is created before you even get your first set of clear aligners. When you decide to get Invisalign, our dentists will take an impression of your mouth in order to create a digital progression of how your teeth will adjust throughout the treatment. Based on this digital map, your dentist will then order a set of clear aligner trays for you to wear day and night. Each benchmark in the treatment is a new set of Invisalign trays, which your teeth will gradually move into. When you reach the final set of retainers in the progression, your smile is complete!
How Long Does Invisalign Take?
The duration of Invisalign is comparable to braces, though the time estimate is more precise. Since your adjustments are already pre-mapped out, you don’t have to visit your dentist every few months to have your braces manually tightened. If you wear your “invisible braces” for at least 22 hours per day (only removing them to eat, drink, and brush and floss your teeth), your treatment should be complete after about 15 weeks. It all depends on how diligently you wear your Invisalign trays, as well as the state of your teeth when the treatment began.
How Much Does Invisalign Cost?
The cost of Invisalign treatment depends on a number of factors, including your family’s dental clinic, your dental insurance coverage, and whether or not you choose to finance. Another thing to consider is how much dental work needs to be done — the more crooked your teeth are, the more Invisalign retainers you’ll need. At Constitution Dental, we customize our dental treatments to each patient’s unique needs, so the price of Invisalign may vary from person to person. If you’re like most people, you probably floss less often than you should. According to a report by the Canadian Dental Association, “Most Canadians (73%) brush twice or more a day and over a quarter (28%) floss 5 times a week.” Ideally, you should be flossing your teeth at least once per day, though many people fall short of this due to a number of reasons. Some have sensitive gums that bleed when they floss (which is a sign that you should be flossing more often, not less), while others just aren’t in the habit of flossing regularly and often forget about flossing altogether. Whatever your reason is for not flossing daily, it’s time to make your oral health more of a priority.
Remove Plaque & Prevent Tartar Buildup
Though brushing your teeth is essential for maintaining good oral hygiene, the bristles of your toothbrush can’t reach all the crevices in between your teeth that are prone to collecting bacteria. Flossing helps to clear out these hard-to-reach areas, preventing the bacteria from building up and turning into plaque, the white substance that eats away at your tooth enamel. Even worse, if plaque isn’t removed with regular brushing and flossing, it turns into tartar, the calcified version of plaque that can only be removed by your family dentist at your next checkup. To prevent cavities and other painful consequences of bacteria building up in your mouth, be sure to brush your teeth at least twice per day and floss daily.
Prevent Gingivitis & Gum Disease (Periodontitis)
In addition to removing plaque and preventing tartar buildup, regular flossing also helps to prevent gingivitis, or early-stage gum disease, from developing. The first signs of gum disease include swollen gums that are sensitive and prone to bleeding, which worsens as the disease progresses. The good news is that gum disease can be prevented (and even reversed in some cases) with regular brushing, flossing, and trips to your dentist clinic for thorough teeth cleanings. When you floss at home, make sure you’re curving the floss around your teeth to scrape away any plaque that has built up along the gumline, rather than simply forcing the floss up and down between your teeth.
Keep Your Smile Looking Its Best
It’s true that healthy smiles also look amazing. If you have cavities, tooth decay, and infected gums, you’ll probably be reluctant to show off your pearly whites. It’s important to floss daily if you want a beautiful smile you can feel good about, not to mention that you’ll feel more healthy overall if your oral health is in tip-top shape. So, take care of yourself and give your confidence a boost by taking extra good care of your teeth in between dental appointments, even if it means investing in a water flosser to make flossing your teeth less of a chore.
